Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore was established in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by Dr. G. Viswanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Government of Tamil Nadu. It was granted the status of a Deemed-to-be University in 2001 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
The institution is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by AICTE for relevant programs. Over the years, VIT has developed a reputation for its academic programs, research initiatives, and industry-oriented learning approach.
